Case studies
Six briefs and how they were built
Corporate year-end function, 220 guests
A Melbourne tech company in a bare warehouse with a hard 11pm curfew. The objective was mixing three teams that had been hybrid all year.
Eight tables on the main floor, a retro slots row along the brick wall for the arrival hour, and a photo set by the bar. The leaderboard scored mixed-department pairs, so points could only be earned by partnering outside your own team. Rebooked the following year.
Client hospitality dinner, 48 guests
An international consulting firm wanted conversation first and entertainment second, across a long seated dinner in a private dining room.
Two tables run as a poker-themed dinner between courses, one host, no amplified sound. Chips were branded to the firm's palette and taken home as keepsakes. The format has since been repeated in two other states.
Premium milestone birthday, 90 guests
A private hall hire for a significant birthday, with a guest list spanning three generations of adults and a 1920s dress code.
Three tables and five retro cabinets dressed as a parlour row. The cabinet corner turned out to be the centre of the night: it photographed better than the tables and kept the older guests in the room for two hours longer than the host expected.
Exclusive private evening, 14 guests
A single-table VIP brief in a private residence, with a dedicated host, bespoke chips and a confidentiality undertaking from every crew member.
One blackjack table at conversation pace, a counter-top cabinet on the bar as a conversation piece, and no branding, photography or social presence of any kind.
HR team-building programme, 64 participants
A people-and-culture team asked for an afternoon programme with a written objective: get a recently merged pair of departments talking.
We ran dealer school in teams of four, seeded across the two former companies, then had staff run tables for their own colleagues. Closed with a facilitated five-minute debrief rather than a presentation.
Agency partnership, three events
An event agency partner needed a white-label gaming floor across three client events in Victoria, under their own branding and stage management.
We supplied staffed hire with crew in neutral dress, worked to their run sheets, and issued venue documentation in their name. Now on their preferred supplier list.
In their words
Feedback from organisers
Shared with permission and kept anonymous at our clients' request.
Half the room had never touched a roulette table. Twenty minutes in, the finance team was teaching the graduates. It did more for cross-team conversation than the last three workshops.
Corporate year-end function, 220 guests
The slots lounge was the surprise. Everyone queued for photos at the old cabinets, and my parents' friends stayed two hours longer than anyone expected.
Private party, 90 guests
We sub-contract the gaming floor and keep the catering. Their run sheets arrive early and the crew bumps out quietly, which is why they are on our preferred list.
Three joint events across Victoria
What sold it internally was the written confirmation that nothing is wagered and nothing is paid out. Our risk team signed it off in a day.
Client hospitality dinner, 48 guests
The debrief was the part I did not expect to value. Two departments that had avoided each other for months had something harmless to talk about afterwards.
64 participants, in work hours
Fourteen guests, one table, and the producer stayed the whole evening without ever being in the way. That is harder than it sounds.
Private residence, 14 guests
